It’s time for spring sports, and Upper Merion Lacrosse is always a big hit when the weather breaks. After finishing 5-13 (Overall) and 2-6 (Conference), and the departures of multiple important guys, the boys with the sticks are looking forward to turning things around this season. The first official contest for the 2025-2026 season will be on Friday, March 13th. The Vikings will go on the road and visit Wissahickon High School, with the faceoff coming at 5:00 PM.
Although a good amount of departures are there, there are plenty of replacements, and younger guys stepping up. The two most impactful seniors lost due to graduation were goalie Nate Uhl, and Attack: Colin McCormick – Lefty Attackman. Two younger guys will step up in their place, sophomore Mina Youssef, and freshman Brian Blanco.
Last year, the Vikings hosted Wissahickon in their first official contest of the season, but things did not go their way, dropping the home and season opener, 11-4. This year, they’ll travel to Wissahickon for their first game of the season. With the help of senior Attack/Midfield Kieran Lamey, who recently committed to Moravian University in late January. Two other seniors who look forward to making their final mark are Midfielder Noah Weiler, and Defenseman Henry Turbiner.
When highlighting any breakout candidates, you cannot go without talking about some of the younger guys on the rise. As far as those whose minutes will go up, that’ll be junior Joseph Blando and senior Dylan Thornton. It’s a big year for all seniors too, but there’s two who really stuck out in the offseason. Starting attackman Ian Montgomery has progressed on all skills, from the head on action to getting to the cage. Another senior who had progressed a lot in the offseason, and has the chance to truly make an impact is Sean Porcello.
When asking why people or specifically students should tune into Upper Merion boys lacrosse, the answer is simple, the Vikings will have a Blue Collar Mentality / Gold Standard. They will outwork their opponents through relentless effort, toughness, and a daily work ethic. From competing to behaving at the highest level on the field, in school, and in the community. The Crew will make the school proud and will want to showcase efforts on game days! So, come out and support this spring, it can’t hurt.
