Diversity Day is a vital part of our high school community because it encourages respect, acceptance, and empathy. Since this event only happens every other year, it’s a rare and valuable opportunity to explore the many cultures and backgrounds represented not only in our school, but around the world. Throughout the day, you’ll experience fashion shows, traditional foods, and interactive activities tailored to your interest, keeping you entertained and informed. We’ll also feature special performances that showcase the incredible talents within our community. Ultimately, Diversity Day offers an unparalleled opportunity to broaden your worldview and deepen your understanding of cultures beyond your own.

Diversity Day Guide- Here is Everything You Need to Know for March 27th:

- Exploration: During Exploration, there will be tables throughout the second and third floor, each representative of a certain country or community; you will get a chance to buy some tasty food and learn about the backgrounds of these tables.

During the Diversity Day of 2024 (the first event we held in our new high school), we had raised over $2,000 for UNICEF. We had a variety of unique Classroom activities ranging from Irish Dancing to ‘Learn to Use Chopsticks’. There were lots of delicious foods available for everyone to try and given the crowds of people packed in the hallways, it is safe to say that this was an enjoyable, appetizing, experience for many. And we ended the day off with a raffle (filled with amazing prizes), a comedian, and the wonderful music of a Mariachi band.

I was signed up for the ‘Irish Dance’ room along with some friends and we got to learn a few simple moves which was really fun. For me personally, I cannot put into words the appreciation I have for this event. Throughout elementary and middle school, I would often be ashamed or embarrassed to recognize or associate with being Indian. Even though I loved the food, the music, or the art of my Tamil heritage, I made as many efforts as I could to keep it hidden from my peers, worried it would bring about judgement. But on this day, I not only wore traditional Indian attire, but also shared traditional Indian food with my fellow classmates which was truly an antidote for my fixated fear of cultural pride. Similar to this experience, you can truly be making a difference for someone else and for yourself by actively participating in this event so be sure to attend Diversity Day on March 27th!
