Mr. Schurtz starts his first year as The Viking Call’s faculty advisor.  He has been teaching at Upper Merion Area High School since 1997 … (he’s old). For that entire time he has been an English teacher at the school, as well as filled a variety of roles throughout those years: head girls basketball coach (1999-2015), BUZZ advisor (2001 to present), UM Underground Players director (1997-2005), assistant girls soccer coach (2011), and current UMAHS Social Media coordinator (2024 – present).  He is excited to see where The Viking Call students can bring this new digital platform and he is happy to “Answer the Call.”
