Outlook
As the spring sports seasons start up again, Upper Merion is in for an exciting next couple of months. There is a lot of anticipation and high hopes for Upper Merion’s girls spring track team this year, especially after having such an amazing winter track season. The girls winter track team finished the season strong, with the 4x200m team, consisting of Zymirah Freeman, Alyssa Hepburn, Milli Sirivolu, and Amillyana Fawcett breaking the school record, qualifying, and running at the Indoor State Championship meet. Heading into this spring season, the girls team is ready to set new records and bring home some medals.
Last year’s accomplishments
Some of the biggest accomplishments from last spring’s track season include the girls 4×4 team (Zymirah Freeman, Mia Barret, Sara Coello, and Alyssa Hepburn) qualifying and running at Penn Relays, the girls 4×1 team (Amillyana Fawcett, Lexi Jones, Jade Webb, and Kennedy Coles) qualifying and running at Penn relays and districts, along with Jade Webb, Delaney Andrews, Kennedy Coles, Lexi Jones, Amillyana Fawcett, and Zymirah Freeman competing in the New Balance Nationals.

This year’s roster
This spring, the team’s accomplishments are shaped by the potential in newcomers, and improved skills of the returning veterans. Since there are so many students participating in spring track this year, it is hard to select and evaluate particular newcomers that stand out, but Coach Franko displays her enthusiasm in discovering their skills, claiming, “We have a large freshman class so we are excited to see what they can do.” Since there are so many returning athletes, Coach Franko highlights the leaders in each category. Some of the track veterans include Kennedy Coles, Alyssa Hepburn, Zymirah Freeman, Milli Sirivolu, and Amillyana Fawcett

continuing to dominate the short sprints, while Klaire Rivalta and Skylar Diamanti remain the front runners in distance events. Coach Franko also recognizes Mia Barret, Alyssa Hepburn, Sara Coello, and Zymirah Freeman as the leaders of mid distance. Lastly, Delaney Andrews’ accomplishments in shotput, and Milli Sirivolu’s success in hurdles have also been pointed out by the girl’s track coach.
Franko recognizes the strength in Upper Merion’s teamwork, and emphasises the significance and value of each event. “All events are important for the success of a track and field team. You can’t be successful without each group performing well.” Coach Franko also delights in the increased group of throwing athletes this year, adding to the already impressive roster. Throughout the season, Coach Franko and the girls team look forward to depth in talent, commitment to the sport, and continuous improvement, to help the Vikings have a successful season.
